Frequently asked Questions

Why is Council undertaking this project?

Council set target levels of service for the wastewater system that directly relate to customers. In instances where service levels are at risk of not being met, Council undertake detailed modelling and investigations to ensure the wastewater system is operating as it should.

For this project, it was found that aging and damaged assets were affecting the efficient operation of the Pump Station. As such the replacements and improvements will improve operation, increase capacity and allow for more effective operation of the pump station and associated rising main.

How is the project funded?

This project is Council funded by the Sewer Fund.

What are the main benefits?

The key benefits of this project are:

  • Improved sewer capacity
  • Increased pumping capacity
  • Preparation for future works

Will I be consulted directly about the impacts of the project?

While formal consultation processes may not be required for all landholders, Council is committed to keeping the community informed. We will provide regular updates through local media, this project page, letterbox drops and direct communication with immediately affected residents. Where traffic control is required, advanced notice to motorists in the form of Variable Message Boards will be utilised.

Will environmental impacts be taken into consideration?

Yes, a Review of Environmental Factors was undertaken as part of the design process, and the project will adhere to all relevant environmental regulations and guidelines.

Works will occur within the road reserve and Council owned land that is already disturbed, with an urban environment and landscaping that is subject to typical urban noise, and visual conditions associated with a developed commercial precinct. The endorsed Review of Environmental Factors Report can be viewed in the project attachments.

What can be expected?

  • Set up of a site compound and material storage area at 67 - 71 Hastings River Drive.
  • Temporary shoulder, single lane, or road closures with detours: traffic management and signage will be in place.
  • Excavation activity in the area between Clifton Drive and Bellbowrie Street, including machinery and trucks on site.
  • Temporary bypass pumping of sewer lines to allow replacement of pipes which will require use of generators.
  • Night works to enable pump station bypassing undertaken at Widderson Street and Hastings River Drive Intersection.

What will be the impact on local residents during construction?

Constructing a sewer main does require the creation of a construction site, which may include partial or full road closures, impacts to pedestrian access and possibly out of hours work.

Communication via letterbox drops, media releases and direct communication will be used as the project gets closer to construction.
