    3.png Planned works

Planned interruptions to water and wastewater supply services are necessary to allow for routine maintenance of the water and wastewater supply system.

We will endeavour to inform affected customers of the expected time and duration of any planned interruption prior to the work being undertaken.

    • Domestic customers - 24 hours
    • Commercial customers - 2 days
    • Industrial customers - 7 days

Mains cleaning Mains cleaning - Ice pigging

    What is ice pigging?

Ice pigging is an innovative pipe-cleaning method that uses a thick slurry of semi-solid ice to clean water pipes. The ice conforms to changes in the pipe, while acting like a solid to scrape away sediment, biofilm, iron, and manganese. It is fast, effective, and low-risk - if the ice stops, it simply melts.

    Why are we using it?

    • Improves water clarity and quality by removing built-up deposits
    • Uses about 50% less water than traditional flushing
    • Safe for pipes - ice navigates bends and valves with no risk of getting stuck
    • Faster and less disruptive for the community.

    How the process works

    1. Isolate the pipe section: Valves are temporarily closed to isolate the section being cleaned.
    2. Inject the ice slurry: A tanker pumps the ice slurry into the pipeline using a hydrant or small access point.
    3. Ice pig scrapes and carries debris: As it moves, the ice pig applies high shear force, lifting sediment and material from pipe walls.
    4. Ice and debris exit the system: The slurry and loosened deposits are flushed out safely at the outlet hydrant.

    What you may notice

    • Temporary water discoloration during cleaning
    • Avoid using water while work is underway in your street
    • After work is complete, run your cold tap for 2–3 minutes until water clears.

    Benefits at a glance

    • Better water quality
    • Less water wasted
    • Minimal customer disruption
    • Environmentally friendly
    • No risk of pipe damage.

    4.png Faults - Unplanned outage

Unforeseen events such as a water main break or other system issues. A notification will be posted on this page, with regular updates and an estimated repair time.

    2.png Boil water

Water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil to make it safe. Kettles with automatic shut off switches can do this. Water should then be allowed to cool and stored in a clean container with a lid and refrigerated.

Everyone, particularly people caring for young children, should be careful to avoid scalding, when you are heating and then cooling the water.

Bottled water or cool boiled water should be used for drinking, washing uncooked food (for example, salad vegetables and fruit), making ice, cleaning teeth, gargling and pet’s drinking water.

Dishes should be washed in hot soapy water or in a dishwasher. Children should take bottled water or cool boiled water to school.

Tap water is safe for bathing. There is a potential risk if water is swallowed during washing and bathing. Parents and carers could consider a sponge bath for children as an alternative.

    1.png Do not drink

Use bottled water for drinking and cooking, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, preparing food, mixing baby formula, making ice and giving water to pets.

Do not drink or use water from any appliance connected to your water supply lines. This includes the water and ice dispensers in your refrigerator, freezer and dishwasher.

Boiling the water will not remove the contamination.
