Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations

Council's Library was successful in gaining NSW State Government funding to install four 22kW AC destination electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for public use.

Location: Small carpark behind Council Headquarters off Lord Street (accessed via the north bound lane only - see map below).

Cost: 30c/kWh

Close to local amenities such as food and coffee shops, the library, public pool and within walking distance to multiple beaches and the Port Macquarie CBD, it is an ideal place to recharge your vehicle while taking a break or getting a few errands completed.

How to use

  1. We have two dual-port charging stations 8299 and 8300. An App QR code and charging station details can be found on the back side. Park your EV's charging port closest to the charge port you require.
  2. Council reception can loan a Type 1 or 2 charging cable if a Drivers Licence or sufficient security is left to ensure its return (during business hours Mon-Fri 9am-4pm).
  3. Use the charge port closest to your EV and your Chargefox enabled RFID charge-card or Chargefox App to charge.
  4. The light above the charge port socket will change from white to blue when your BYO cable is connected then pulse green when charging. Any issues please use the in-app Chargefox Help & Support function.

Conditions of use

  1. Let others know how long you will be charging (using the charging station’s App you’re paying with or on the Plugshare App)
  2. Set a timer on your phone or watch for when your charge will finish if your App or EV doesn’t provide notifications
  3. Only use a public EV charger if you really have to, especially in high demand times (e.g. around long weekends and public holidays)
  4. Do not ‘camp’ on a public charger (being plugged in but not actually charging)
  5. Do not reduce your EV charging rate to be slower if likely to inconvenience others
  6. Do not take multiple charging spots unless really needed to recharge (e.g. with trailer or EVs that have trouble using short Tesla Supercharger cables)

Top tips

  1. Always check the cable socket is clean and in good order before plugging in
  2. Only buy an 11kW charging cable if that is the maximum AC charge your EV can take
  3. Remember to check and top up your tyre pressure to maximise EV range, tyre life and safety
