FAQs

How will this affect travel on Gordon and Horton Street?

Gordon Street is proposed to remain open for the duration of the works. Lanes in the work zone will however be reduced from two lanes to one in each direction with speed limits reduced to 40km/h. Horton Street will not be directly accessible via Gordon Street for the duration of the project which is forecast to be completed December 2024. A temporary access will be constructed to Dan Murphy’s via Hayward Street and Horton Street.

Construction will be staged to improve traffic safety and efficiency during this time.

How do I stay informed?

Please check this project webpage for updates.

During construction, we will work with the contractor and use a variety of communication tools to keep the community updated on changes to traffic conditions and the progress of the project.

Our community engagement team have been working with directly impacted businesses and residents and will continue to do so as the project progresses.

What are the impacts on local residents?

Traffic delays may occur during the construction period as there is a reduction in lanes along Gordon Street from two to one and direct access to Horton Street Via Gordon Street will be closed.

There may be minor delays to road users and pedestrians in the area due to the nature of the construction to upgrade the intersection.

This project will utilise the latest construction methods and equipment, including noise mitigation measures, during construction.

Night and weekend works will also be undertaken to minimise short-term disruption to the broader community and expedite project delivery.

Although some construction noise is unavoidable, the Contractor will be required to monitor noisy activities when working adjacent to residential properties to minimise these impacts as far as is practical and ensure they are adhering to requirements set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Was the community consulted about this project?

In 2018, the community was consulted regarding the proposed improvements to the Gordon and Horton Street intersection upgrade. This involved community consultation through the Have Your Say platform highlighting the proposed intersection upgrade with a visual of the signalised upgrade concept. The community were able to provide feedback via a survey, by sending in a letter or via email.
