Lorne Rd is a key link between Kew and Comboyne, two of our region’s significant rural centres. It is an important freight route for timber and agriculture industries and a main tourism route for those travelling through the hinterland.
Port Macquarie Hastings Council (PMHC) recognises the importance of Lorne Rd and has committed to upgrading a key section of this connecting passage to improve driver safety.
Road pavement and sealing works were completed in March 2025 thanks to $5 million of funding provided by the Australian Government. PMHC also committed up to $5 million in additional funding, which provided a maximum $10 million combined contribution to complete the agreed scope.
The upgraded section of road was fully opened to traffic in March 2025, and we thank local road users and residents for their patience during the construction phase.
The project encompasses the detailed design and sealing of two kilometres of Lorne Road commencing from the Western extent of seal (South of Comboyne Road) - Stage 1.
Detailed design work through to the Koppin Yarratt Road intersection for Stage 2 has been completed and Council continues to seek funding to deliver this work through the State and Federal governments.
At the April 2024 Ordinary Council meeting, Council resolved to “Not continue any further planning and investigations for Stage 3 of Lorne Road at this time due to the estimated construction cost being in excess of $50 million and the low traffic volume on this section.”
