Council is progressing subsurface drainage improvements at Findlay Park to improve field performance and reduce wet-weather impacts.

In May 2025, following community and stakeholder consultation, Council formally adopted the Findlay Park Master Plan, which identified sports field drainage upgrades as a priority to improve field performance and wet-weather usability. These upgrades were subsequently included in Council’s Recreation and Open Space Action Plan (ROSAP), which lists Findlay Park field drainage as an immediate priority project for delivery in the 2025/2026 financial year.

Project timeframe

  • Expected start date of drainage construction: Monday 16 February 2026
  • Expected practical completion of drainage construction: Tuesday 10 March 2026
  • Turf recovery period post drainage construction: Approximately 6 – 8 weeks, with fields anticipated to be suitable for use between Tuesday 21 April and Tuesday 5 May 2026, subject to weather and turf performance.

Scope of works

The drainage works will be undertaken across all three fields at Findlay Park. The technical scope includes:

  • Installation of subsurface drainage lines at 3 - metre spacings
  • Sand slitting at 3 - metre spacings across the playing surfaces
  • Construction of a main drainage line connecting to the existing stormwater outlet in the south-west corner of Findlay Park
