Regional Integrated Transport Strategy

Adopted: April 2023

A Regional Integrated Transport Strategy (RITS) has been developed to guide transport planning and decision-making for our road network, over the long term.

The RITS outlines the most pressing challenges and the changes required to ensure it is safe, sustainable and convenient to get around the Port Macquarie Hastings Region.

Purpose of the RITS:

  • Provide long term planning guides to ensure our transport networks are integrated, innovative, safe and economical.
  • Reduce reliability on cars and improve access.
  • Improve public transport and active transport (walking & cycling) opportunities.
  • Improve heavy and light vehicle movement and parking.
  • Improve mobility and access within land use precincts and town centres.
  • Enact opportunities for integrated land use and transport planning.
  • Plan for future technologies and digitalisation to improve connection and access to goods and services.
  • Align transport objectives at all levels, including Regional, State, Local and other relevant policies and strategies.

The RITS provides a framework to coordinate with State Government, industry and community stakeholders to ensure there is an aligned approach to transport planning, delivery and management.
