Airport parallel taxiway and general aviation refurbishment

The Port Macquarie Airport Parallel Taxiway (Stage 1) and General Aviation (GA) Refurbishment Project aims to enhance the safety, access and operational efficiency of the airport through the construction of a Code A (light aircraft) parallel taxiway and the renewal of existing GA taxiway and apron pavements.

What are the proposed works?

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has undertaken airspace reviews associated with the Port Macquarie Airport since 2010 and have recommended the provision of a parallel taxiway to reduce runway occupancy time and enhance safety.  The parallel taxiway was also identified as key infrastructure in the Port Macquarie Airport Master Plan 2010.

This project represents stage 1 (1200m, Code A) of a future full-length Code C parallel taxiway, suitable for larger airline aircraft.

GA apron and taxiway pavement upgrade works are also to be completed concurrently with the parallel taxiway works, to better utilise Contractor resources and obtain delivery efficiencies for the project.

Project timing

Construction phase works are planned to commence in July 2022. Weather permitting, these stage 1 works are expected to be completed by Mid 2023.

The Airport is to remain operational during construction, with works to be planned and managed by Council’s contractor in consultation with local GA aircraft operators to minimise any disruption during this period.
