Saving water is a great way to reduce your water bill and help preserve our most precious natural resource.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's water conservation measures are simple and practical ways for residents to lessen the impact on our drinking water supplies and the environment. Other changes that reduce annual water consumption include retrofitting existing houses with water efficient products, compliance with BASIX water efficiency requirements for new and renovated houses and dual reticulation in suitable new development areas.
Smart Water Advice is a national, not for profit, water efficiency program, run by Smart Approved WaterMark for water utilities and Councils.
The Smart Water Advice platform contains regional information on saving water in the home, garden and at work with over 35 pages of water efficiency content, interactive resources (e.g. plant finder, water calculators), video materials and residential factsheets and business posters.
Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) Scheme
The WELS Scheme is designed to assist with water conservation by reducing consumption through the use of water saving technology.
The scheme enforces water efficiency standards and regulations, compares the water efficiency of products and provides labelling on water efficiency ratings for a range of water fixtures, fittings and appliances.
WELS labelling is easy to read and understand, and can help consumers to make informed choices about the water efficiency of products for the home or business.
The WELS label includes:
- A star rating which helps you to quickly compare the water efficiency of different products. The more starts on the label, the more efficient the product;
- The rate of water consumption such as litres per wash or flow rate; and
- Product information and licencing details.
