Port Macquarie Domestic Waste Facility

Kingfisher Waste Facility

From 1 September 2020, two new weighbridges will be operating at the site to weigh all waste that is disposed of through the facility. This means that all waste will now be weighed and a new set of fees will be in place to dispose of green waste and general waste to landfill.

The reason for this change is to comply with the Environment Protection Licence, administered by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), to track the volume of waste moving through this facility.

For more information on how the weighbridge system works and the changes taking place, please refer to the  Changes to Port Macquarie Waste Transfer Station Fact Sheet828KB pdf(PDF, 828KB)

Fees, Charges and Payment Options

Cash, card and cheque are all accepted at this facility, however, for health and safety reasons, we encourage customers to pay by credit card or EFTPOS. Please refer to waste fees and charges for an itemised list of fees.

You will be charged based on the NET weight of your waste load, not by size. You will be charged by waste type:

  • General waste to landfill loads will be charged $240 per tonne.
This is how much it costs to manage, monitor and resource the landfill.
  • Green waste loads will be charged $65 per tonne.
This is how much it costs to recover and process the waste into compost.
  • Individual items such as tyres and mattresses are charged per item. Refer to waste fees and charges.
  • Drop off for free items will not be charged - see above.

An example of expected costs is below:

At the Cairncross Waste Management Facility, during 2019/2020 financial year, customers with a vehicle and trailer* dropped off a mixed load of waste and paid the following:  (*Vehicle and trailer TARE weight equalled 2T.)

  • 44% of people paid $14.40 (for 60kg of waste)
  • 22% of people paid between $14.40 and $24.00 (for between 60kg - 100 kg of waste)
  • 17% of people paid between $24.00 and $36.00 (for between 100kg - 150 kg of waste)

The table below gives an indicative comparison between current charges and new charges, based on dropping off 100kg of waste.

Using the weighbridge system

All vehicles will now be required to stop at the in-weighbridge to weigh their load of waste. Please uncover your load ready for inspection while waiting in line or when on the weighbridge. Your load and vehicle will now be weighed on the way into the facility and the way out. You will only be charged for the weight of your waste – not your vehicle.
