Road Safety Week 2021

Take the pledge to drive so others survive.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is a proud supporter of National Road Safety Week which highlights the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it. During National Road Safety Week, May 16 - 23, we remember those we have lost on our roads and commit to #DriveSoOthersSurvive.

Did you know that the biggest factors in serious injury or fatal crashes on roads in the Port Macquarie-Hastings Local Government Area are speeding, fatigue and driving under the influence?

This year, during National Road Safety Week we encourage drivers to take extra care in known local koala habitat and help reduce trauma from incidents with our local wildlife. As drivers our behaviour can help reduce the impact of road strikes on our Koala population and our wildlife.

Please slow down and be more vigilant when driving through known koala habitat - look for road signs and take notice of speed limits, take extra care at dawn and dusk and remember that koalas don't look left or right when crossing the road looking for food or a mate!

As a driver, there are simple commitments you can make to help reduce crashes on our local roads. Show your support by taking the pledge to drive so others, including our wildlife, survive.
