Support Local

It's been a challenging year for our community as we navigate the impacts of COVID-19, especially for our small local businesses. At the start of the June School holidays, Greater Sydney, which represents 90% of our visitor market was locked down due to COVID.

Our local businesses are struggling, and they need our support.

So we've put together 10 ways you can Support Local, and make the most of our region whilst our visitors aren't in town. We’ve practically got the place to ourselves, and I’m sure a lot of us are feeling like a holiday.

So discover, explore, and try new things, and Support Local.

10 ways you can you support local

1.Take it Away!

Lot's of local businesses offer takeaway or delivery options in our region, so you don't have to go without your favourite meal or snack while limiting your movements. But it's not just food, now that being COVID safe is the norm, online ordering and home delivery options are available from a range of providers. Contact your family fav's to see whether they deliver!

2. Dine and discover

The NSW Government has launched Dine & Discover NSW to encourage the community to get out and about and support dining, arts and recreation businesses. Only a fraction of those eligible for $100 worth of Dine & Discover vouchers have actually redeemed them, but the expiration date has moved to the end of August, so there's plenty of time to take advantage of the offer. The dining vouchers now also be used for takeaway meals. There's plenty of local businesses participating, find more information about the vouchers here.

 3. Try (or learn) something new

While staying at home, it's easy to fall into a same, same routine. Luckily, we live in an amazing place with plenty to offer! All the sense of adventure you might be missing can be found right here, in your own backyard. Greater Port Macquarie has a great collection of things you can See & Do in our region, so try something new. It could be a part of our region you’ve never been to before, an adventure or experience, or a new bar or café. There are also a bunch of lovely ways to learn new things like painting, pottery, drawing, crafts, dance, theatre and more!

 4. Check out our new Taste Trails

Earlier this year, we launched our new Taste Trails. These five self-drive curated Trails will provide plenty of inspiration to plan a day (or two) out, exploring our region. Trails include ‘Wine + Wonder’, ‘Creatives + Curios’, & Brews + Burgers. It’s a great time to visit many of our experiences and attractions. Enjoy uncrowded access, and special attention. Get to know the staff at your local cellar door or gallery. There’s something for everyone!

5. Take a ‘Staycation’!

Time to play tourist in your own backyard! From luxe resorts & retreats to tiny houses, retro motels, cozy cabins and everything in between, our region has it covered. Most have very competitive rates and good availability at the moment, so book the babysitter if you need to, grab your favourite person/people, and ‘getaway’ locally. Write your own travel review and use the #SupportLocalPMH to inspire others. For great accommodation options, visit https://portmacquarieinfo.com.au/.

8. Be social

Help our local Port Macquarie Hastings businesses grow their 'community' - tell your family and friends, share it on social media - follow their page, like their posts, review their products or services, share their stories, and use the hashtag #SupportLocalPMH

 9. Offer your skills

It’s tough to get a leg in the door with so many businesses working from home. If you’re a start-up entrepreneur or a digital marketing specialist, local businesses may welcome your help and you may score a few free meals and coffees while you gain experience! A number of non-profit organisations are looking for volunteers at the moment as well.

 10. Be kind

Times are tough for everyone, and businesses are under enormous pressure right now. Everyone’s trying to muddle through the best they can. We’re all human, and we don’t always get it right. A bit of kindness goes a long way.
