The best place to stay informed on COVID-19 (Coronavirus), including updates, alerts and resources, is to visit the Australian Government Department of Health website

If you're concerned about COVID-19, call the Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080 for advice. The line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Practice good hygiene

We all need to practice good hygiene to protect against infection and prevent the virus spreading.

Good hygiene includes:

  • covering your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue
  • disposing of tissues properly
  • washing your hands often with soap and water, including before and after eating and after going to the toilet
  • using alcohol-based hand sanitisers
  • cleaning and disinfecting surfaces
  • if you are sick, avoiding contact with others and staying more than 1.5 metres away from people

Social Distancing

Our community are being asked to keep a minimum of  1.5 metres away from others, avoid large social gatherings and avoid physical contact with people. The more space between you and others, the harder it is for the virus to spread. Watch the video below on how to practice social distancing, and for more information, visit the Australian Department of Health website.  

How to self-isolate

Self-isolation means you must stay at home or in your hotel room for 14 days. This is to prevent the possible spread of the virus to other people. You must self-isolate if any of the following applies to you:

  • you have COVID-19
  • you have been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19
  • you arrived in Australia after midnight on 15 March 2020

During the 14 days of isolation, you must stay at home or in your hotel and don’t go to public places including work, school, childcare, university or public gatherings. Use personal transport, but if you need to use public transport, reduce the spread of germs through good hygiene, wearing a mask and avoiding physical contact. Only people who usually live with you should be in the home. Do not see visitors. If you are in a hotel, avoid contact with other guests or staff. If you are well, there is no need to wear surgical masks at home. Ask others who are not in isolation to get food and necessities for you. If you must leave home, such as to seek medical care, wear a surgical mask. If you don’t have a mask, take care to not cough or sneeze on others and practice good hygiene.
