Flood Funding and Support Assistance

Flood and storm impacted people and businesses can now access all available State Government and Federal Government support, through the NSW Government’s Disaster Customer Care program by calling Service NSW on 13 77 88 or visiting www.service.nsw.gov.au. Below is a list of available grants or funding assistance and eligibility criteria:

Disaster Recovery Allowance

If eligible, you’ll get the maximum equivalent rate of JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance. You can get it for a maximum of 13 weeks. This will be paid from the date you lose income as a direct result of the New South Wales floods in March 2021.

Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment

If you’re eligible you’ll get:

  • $1,000 per adult
  • $400 for each child younger than 16.

This is a lump sum payment to help you if a declared disaster significantly affects you. It’s not for minor damage or inconvenience.

For example:

  • you were seriously injured
  • you're the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing
  • you're the principal carer of a dependent child who's experienced any of the above
  • the flood significantly damaged your principal place of residence.

NSW Government Disaster Relief Grant for individuals

If your home or essential household contents were damaged or destroyed by a natural disaster, you may be eligible for support. The financial assistance is provided to help people to recover from the effects of a disaster and re-establish a basic standard of living. It is not provided to replace insurance or compensate for losses.

You may be eligible for financial support if the following apply:

  • your home (primary place of residence) was damaged by a natural disaster
  • you do not have insurance for the damage
  • you are a low income earner with limited financial resources
  • it has been less than 4 months since the disaster.

Disaster Assistance for individuals

Individuals who have been impacted by disaster may be eligible for relief grants.

Who this is for:

  • Damage to homes and/or essential household items
  • Limited financial resources
  • Individuals with no insurance for essential household items and/or structural repairs to the home

Service NSW
Small Business Grants of up to $50,000

If you're a small business or a not-for-profit organisation, and you've been directly impacted by the recent floods, you may be eligible for a flood disaster recovery grant. The flood disaster recovery grant of up to $50,000 is to help pay for costs of clean-up and reinstate small business or not-for-profit organisation’s operations.

NSW Rural Assistance Authority
Special Disaster Grants of up to $75,000

Disaster recovery grants of up to $75,000 are now available to primary producers in LGAs affected by the
NSW storms and floods that have occurred from 10 March 2021.

A natural disaster assistance transport subsidy is available to eligible farmers who are affected by a declared natural disaster event.

Rural Aid

Rural Aid provides critical support including water, fodder (hay), financial and counselling assistance to help farmers (primary producers) who endure drought, flood and fire.

Business Connect provides professional advisors, all of whom have experience in running their own small business, to assist with a recovery strategy.

Telstra Assistance Package

Assistance to those who have lost services following the severe storms and major flooding across eastern parts of New South Wales.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance, emotional support and referrals assistance.

 St Vincent De Paul

St Vincent De Paul's are providing immediate help and support with food, clothing and other forms of assistance. They also have available one-off cash payments of up to $1,000 per household from the Vinnies NSW Flood Appeal funds for those significantly impacted by the floods.

 Who this is for:

  • Liver or work in impacted area and can demonstrate as having been impacted by the floods
  • Person was already experiencing disadvantage prior to the floods and is now experiencing even greater financial hardship as a direct result of the floods
  • Person has suffered significant property loss or damage
  • Property was under-insured or uninsured

Food, clothing and household items

Immediate support including food and grocery vouchers, clothing, hygiene essentials, furniture, some financial assistance and emotional support.

Family assistance - Department of education

 

Families affected by the floods may be eligible to receive additional support with the cost of child care through the Additional Child Care Subsidy (temporary financial hardship).

Families looking for alternative child care options during an emergency can visit Starting Blocks or Child Care Finder.

Families attending services in these areas will have access to additional absences during the LAE period if they have used their allowance of 42 absences.

 

Families can apply directly through Centrelink.


Assistance for Sporting clubs

A grant or a concessional fixed rate loan is available for sporting and recreation clubs and associations for clean up, removal of debris and/or restoring essential facilities.

Indigenous Business Australia crisis support

Support may include suspension of loan repayments, a $2,000 grant for immediate needs, assistance with insurance claims and further tailored assistance.

Up to $20,000 to assist Indigenous corporations to immediately secure and clean up properties.

Free counselling sessions through local Public Health Networks

Access up to 10 free counselling sessions through local Primary Health Networks (PHNs). Receive Medicare rebates for up to 10 psychological therapy sessions.

NSW Police – lost and found stock

The NSW Police Force – Rural Crime Prevention Team has released advice to communities effected by recent flooding to assist in reporting lost, found and straying livestock. If there is a dispute regarding the ownership of livestock, please contact your local police station.

If stock are straying on a public road, please call the local police.

If stock are straying on a Travelling Stock Reserve (TSR), please contact the Local Land Services on1300 795 299. If stock are required to be impounded, please contact Port Macquarie-Hastings Council on (02) 6581 8111

Australian Red Cross

Red Cross has launched a Flood Grant for people whose primary place of residence has been destroyed or made uninhabitable by the NSW floods in March 2021.

The grant consists of a $1,000 payment per household that may contribute towards paying for rent for temporary accommodation, or meeting basic, urgent needs.
