Pet registration

Dogs and cats should be registered from six months of age on the NSW Pet Register. Some pets may need an annual permit too. 

Follow the steps below to register your pet. 

Register your pet

Registering your pet can be done online or in person.

Step 1.When you register, you’ll need: 

  • Your animal’s certificate of identification – which you receive when your pet is microchipped
  • Proof of de-sexing – if applicable

Step 2.Check the registration fee

Different fees apply based on whether your pet is de-sexed, is a breeding animal or a service/assistance animal.

  • At any Service NSW outlet
  • At any of our council offices located in Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Laurieton.

*You’ll be required to pay the late fee amount if you don’t register within 28 days of your dog or cat reaching six months of age

 

Permit fees

In addition to registration, you’ll also need an annual permit if your pet falls into one of the following categories:

  • Cat that isn’t de-sexed
  • Cat de-sexed after 4 months of age (permit required for the first year)
  • Restricted dog breed or dog restricted by birth
  • Dog declared as dangerous by Council issued notice.

You’ll be required to pay the late fee amount if:

  • Your cat is un-desexed and you don’t obtain a permit within 28 days after it turns 4 months old.
  • You don’t obtain a permit within 28 days of your dog declared as dangerous by Council notice.
  • You don’t register within 28 days of your restricted breed dog reaching six months of age.
