Tender Funerals Memorial Picnic

Tender Funerals Mid North Coast will host a free Memorial Picnic on Saturday October 25. The event aims to bring people together to pause and to remember those we have loved and lost.

It is the first memorial gathering to be hosted by the Tender Funerals team since the not-for-profit organisation opened its doors in Wauchope in June 2022. Since then Tender Funerals staff and volunteers we have supported nearly 400 local families.

People of all ages and stages are welcome to attend, whether they come along with family or friends or on their own - there is no need to have been involved with Tender Funerals previously.

The event will start with an inclusive, non-denominational ceremony, followed by an afternoon of creative activities, information sharing, live music and a ‘Treasured Memories Hunt’ in the Port Macquarie historic cemetery next door.

Participants can also be involved in creating a community remembrance mandala by placing flowers, pebbles or other natural objects before taking a moment to reflect, celebrate lives lived, acknowledge grief and experience healing. Information on local bereavement services will also be available to take away.

Community Outreach & Engagement Coordinator, Megan Baker hopes the gather will provide comfort and meaning.

"Sharing stories and listening to others who are missing someone reminds us that we are not alone, and that grief is something we can hold together," Megan said.

The inaugural Tender Funerals Mid North Coast Memorial Picnic will be held at Kooloonbung Creek Nature Reserve on Gordon Street, Port Macquarie from 12pm on Saturday October 25.

This is not a fundraising event and there is no cost to attend.

Please bring a picnic to enjoy, as well as a rug, blanket or folding chair to sit on.
