Cemeteries fees and charges

Our cemetery fees and charges cover the council services for reserving a burial site or organising an ash placement or burial. Payment must be made up front.

Burial reservations

What you need to know:

  • Payment must be made up front. Payment plans aren’t available.
  • To reserve a burial plot, please follow the required steps, (link to organising a burial page). including checking our cemetery locations to determine which of our cemeteries have available sites.
  • Immediate burial is best arranged through a funeral director.
  • Grave digging fees can be paid when reserving a plot, or later at the time a burial is needed.
  • Headstones must be arranged through a registered monument mason. Your monument mason may include our Headstone Application Fee in their services, so check first.

Ash placement

What you need to know:

  • When Ashes are placed in an urn. This is known as inurnment.
  • Ashes can be placed in a wall memorial – known as a wall niche. These are available at our ComboyneKendallLaurieton and Wauchope cemeteries.
  • Ashes can be placed in a gravesite, providing you are the rights-holder for the site.
  • Scattering of ashes is not permitted in council cemeteries or on council land/property.
