New Seating for Glasshouse Studio
The Glasshouse Studio now has a new and improved seating system that will provide a more comfortable experience for patrons within this popular venue.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council was successful in receiving $147,000 in grant funding for the new seating through the NSW Government’s Regional Cultural Fund, with an additional contribution of $10,500 provided by Council.
The new seating system provides a safer and more comfortable environment for patrons, with ergonomic bucket seats and handrails.
In addition, audience capacity has been increased by 16%, and the space is now more flexible with the ability to host a wider range of experiences. The space can also be turned around more efficiently and safely.
The Studio is what is known as a ‘black box’ theatre, and is an intimate, fully acoustically isolated performance and rehearsal space suitable for dance, drama and choral events, exhibitions, meetings, presentations and other activities.
Most recently it hosted the Australasian Historical Archaeological Society Conference, Got Ya Back Productions’ ‘Spamalot’ children’s production, the Friday Lunchtime Concert Series and Tim Maddren starring in ‘Me & My Shadow’.
Mayor Peta Pinson said the Glasshouse regularly surveys audiences to ensure the experience is of a consistently high standard.
“The feedback we received about the Studio seating clearly showed that patrons were seeking improved safety and comfort,” Mayor Pinson said.
“We are extremely appreciative of the time patrons take to provide us feedback, and this was instrumental in the venue being able to successfully apply for a NSW Government grant, and we are now all enjoying the outcome.”
Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams said the new seating will greatly enhance the Glasshouse studio experience.
“I was pleased to be able to support Council’s funding application to the NSW Government.
“The funding for the new seating is on top of the $265,000 the NSW Government has provided
the Glasshouse in recent years for new lighting as well as for arts and cultural programs,” Mrs Williams said.
