If you’ve ever wondered how your water gets from catchment to tap, then now’s your chance to go behind the scenes of our region’s water network on a free Water Trail Tour.

The tour takes place on World Water Day, Thursday 22 March. The bus departs from the Player's Theatre 33 Lord St Port Macquarie at 9am and returns at 1.15pm.

The tour from catchment to tap is aimed at raising community awareness on the importance of protecting our local water sources and provides a great opportunity for local residents to learn about how our local water infrastructure works.

Making its first stop at the Hastings River, Koree Island Pumping Station, tour participants will discover how their drinking water is collected. The tour will also guide participants through the Wauchope Water Treatment Plant, Cowarra Dam and culminate in a visit to the Reclaimed Water Treatment Facility in Port Macquarie.

Council staff will be on hand throughout the day to inform tour-goers about how ultrafiltration and microfiltration technology works, where our local water is stored, and how reclaimed water is helping to conserve our precious local water sources.

“It’s really important that we all understand how our water supply works, so we can appreciate and conserve what is a very precious resource,” Council Director Alex Fisher said.

“The Water Trail Tour offers the chance to learn all about how our local water is collected, treated and how it eventually makes its way into our homes.”

The Water Tour will be held on World Water Day, which helps advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources and highlights the importance of universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene facilities in developing countries.

“Council encourages anyone interested in learning about the ins and outs of our region’s water network to book in for the tour, and join us as we celebrate World Water Day,” added Ms Fisher.
