Wayne Richards Sporting Scholarship

Sporting montage - surfing, cycling, running, tennis

Launched in 2004 by the Mayor's Sporting Fund Sub-committee, the Wayne Richards Sporting Scholarship was established as a tribute to the late former Mayor, Wayne Richards who was instrumental in the formation of the Mayor's Sporting Fund in 1999 and a passionate supporter of youth and sport in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region.

In 2015, we included our Wayne Richards Sporting Scholarship as a category in the Port Macquarie-Hastings Sports Awards, organised by Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise.

The annual $4,000 scholarship is designed to provide substantial financial assistance to a Port Macquarie-Hastings based athlete to pursue their sporting goals at a State or National level.

Any sports person between the ages of 13 and 21 years can apply, even if they have received financial assistance or sponsorship from other programs (e.g. The Mayor's Sporting Fund, Australian Sports Commission, Port Macquarie-Hastings Sports Awards), or have been previous recipients of the award.

Upon the announcement of the successful recipient, the athlete receives $1,000. This is followed by three subsequent payments of $1000 over 12 months.

You can also nominate for other categories in the Port Macquarie-Hastings Sports Awards, including sportsperson of the year, team of the year, sporting volunteer of the year and many more. For more info and to nominate, click here.
