As one of the longest running IRONMAN events on the global circuit, IRONMAN Australia boasts 35 years of historic moments.

This iconic global event consisting of a 3.8 kilometre swim, 180 kilometre bike course and 42.2 kilometre run, taking in the best of the Greater Port Macquarie region on what is arguably one of the most scenic IRONMAN courses in the world.

Taking place concurrently with IRONMAN Australia is the renowned IRONMAN 70.3, fondly known as the half IRONMAN.

This incredible IRONMAN festival (fondly known as ‘the festival of lycra’) will take place in Greater Port Macquarie each year, typically in early May.

Huge benefits for our Region

IRONMAN brings around 10,000 people to Port each year.  They stay for an average of 4 nights, with an economic impact in excess of $10 million per annum to our region’s economy.  The event puts our region on the world stage. With athletes from over 20 countries participating, the event was live streamed worldwide for the first time in 2019, and had more than 1 million views.

Hundreds of locals compete, and the event has helped to foster strong local triathlon, running and cycling clubs.

Each year, more than 2,000 volunteers get into the IRONMAN spirit, with the Local Organising Committee at the helm.  Through this structure, IRONMAN then donates around $50,000 to local community groups (a total in excess of $600,000 to date)!
