Australia Day is a day for all Australians, no matter where our personal stories began. It is the day to celebrate our diversity and the values that we share as an Australian community.
In 2021, the day looked a little different for the Port Macquarie-Hastings region! We presented a range of COVID-safe activities on Australia Day in 2021, to encourage connections, and to provide an opportunity to reflect, respect, and celebrate!
The day kicked off with the Official Ceremony, held at the Glasshouse theatre. We welcomed 43 new citizens as they officially made Australia and the Port Macquarie-Hastings region their home. We honoured the Australia Day Award recipients and nominees for all of the amazing work they do for our community!
Hastings Summer Waves was a smashing success, and Westport Park came alive with outstanding entertainment, market & food stalls, and activities.
We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather on our national day, and luckily, we had the Australia Day Pool Parties to cool off at! Wauchope Pool and Laurieton Pool provided fun for all with rides, competitions, inflatable obstacle courses, games, and a silent disco!
Thrill chasers got their fix at the Jolly Aussie Ride Day! The Hastings Valley Mountain Bikers hosted a 'Come and Try' Day at the Jolly Nose Mountain Bike Park, where experienced riders took first-timers out to the park for guided tours of the trails, and plenty of rides, including 'a chicks-only ride'. The attendees also enjoyed free vehicle uplifting and a feed from the Char Bar food truck!
The Hastings River was a sight not to be missed, with vessels taking part in the Aquatic Activities. Even though it was extremely windy on the water, the day was a great success, providing members of the community who were strolling through Town Green with a wonderful display, on-water activities and entertainment with the ongoing commentary.
