Comboyne Illustrated Map Project

Comboyne Village 2021

Here’s your chance to make your mark - permanently! Port Macquarie-Hastings Council (PMHC) is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) to design a new Illustrated Map for the community of Comboyne.

About the project

The town of Comboyne is situated on the top of one of Australia’s only plateaus, and proudly sits approximately 700 metres above sea level. The 454 residents who call Comboyne home, enjoy rich, fertile volcanic soils and reliable rainfall. The community was initially established around timber, dairy and beef industries; more recently, the area has embraced avocado, kiwifruit and blueberry farming.

In the middle of town lies the Comboyne General Store and service station, and located on the side of the store is an ageing painted mural of the Comboyne valley. The Community have requested a replacement of the mural and have prioritised what landmarks and features they would like to see included on the mural map.

EOI are now open for experienced designers and artists who can create an illustrated map design that highlights for visitors the key landmarks and features of the town and includes some significant historical imagery.

Comboyne Mural Current 2021

Project Scope

The project includes artwork development, community consultation and finalisation of design. The map mural is to be designed digitally with the finalised design to be digitally printed on aluminium panels with anti-graffiti layer over laminate. The size of the installed map mural will be approximately 3.5m x 5m.

Project Budget

The delivery of the illustrated map design has an all-inclusive budget of up to $3,000 which includes artists fees, site visits and community consultations. Budget excludes mural map fabrication and installation.

Selection Criteria

EOI received will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Presents creative, original and innovative ideas of high quality.

  • Appropriateness to the context of the project brief, site and community.

  • Demonstrated experience, technical feasibility and ability to successfully deliver the project.
