Group of council volunteers

Port Macquarie- Hastings Council values the important contributions of volunteers within our community, it is fundamental to a vibrant, growing and sustainable place.

Volunteering provides avenues for community participation, social connectedness and engagement for those that participate and through Councils programs provides additional support and the enhancement of the volunteer experience.

Volunteering During COVID-19

Council suspended the Volunteering Program in March, and has continually been monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and risk to our community. As part of this we have put together a COVID-19 Volunteer Management Plan to try and get as many Volunteers back out into the community as possible. During this process it has been identified that not all groups will be able to start back up as some of our Volunteers are deemed as high risk, or the Volunteer Coordinator of the group has made the decision to wait until the New Year.

Current Volunteering Opportunity

The PMH Cares program is designed to bring back to life the old-fashioned values of neighbours looking out for neighbours, providing comradery, connection and practical support for those who may need it.

PMH Cares Volunteers, with the support from Council will offer their neighbours in need practical support and social connections such as

  • Collecting mail
  • Picking up groceries
  • Putting out bins
  • Checking in on those who don’t have anyone else
  • Popping over for a cuppa & chat

Find out more about this program and register to become a PMH Cares volunteer.
