Mural Workshop

Mural Workshop 1140x430

Public art plays an important role in creating a sense of place and a connection to place, it tells local stories and reflects its community’s identity. Through this workshop program, our aim is to upskill and create a strong diverse network of locally based visual artists who can apply for future public art commissions in our region.

Council is now inviting local artists to express their interest to participate in a FREE all-inclusive multi day mural workshop.

Participants will learn steps involved in such topics as:

  • Answering a design brief
  • Working with a commissioning body
  • Upscaling designs
  • Which materials for where
  • Site preparation and safety

And, you will get hands-on and apply your new found skills on a live mural site in Port Macquarie!

Workshop Facilitator

Your Mural Master is renowned artist, designer and mural aficionado Mike Shankster

Through his stylistic, sharp unique artwork, Mike supplies a window to escape from the modern world, a mix of realistic lines blended into complex traditional feel.

As a disenfranchised youth, Mike did not conform to high school education, as he became a year 10 drop out, turning his focus into his creativity by enrolling in a graphic Arts and Prepress Apprenticeship. With an aptitude towards illustration, Mike progressed his skills in the applied arts. Beginning as a humble first year, his career progressed until he became an art director.

While gaining professional experience in applied arts, Mike’s real talent in illustration and fine arts became more of a personal drive. Leaving the stifling nature of the corporate world, mike began his journey into freelance design.

Throughout the last ten years, Mike has focused his talents on commercial advertising and branding, painting, digital illustration and commissioned public murals.
