Early stages of construction
Council has constructed a wheelchair friendly fishing platform as shown on the concept plan809KB pdf(PDF, 809KB).
The platform is located on the Lake Cathie foreshore, alongside the existing footpath, linking to the disability friendly car park.
Growing evidence shows the positive health benefits of recreational fishing, especially for seniors and people with a disability and although purpose built to be disability friendly, the platform can be used by anyone including people of all abilities, parents with prams and seniors.
The fishing platform has hand rails on the sides and a low guard rail along the water side to allow ease of casting for people in a wheelchair.
This project is part of Council delivering on its Disability Discrimination Act Action Plan and creating an accessible community for all. Council wishes to thank the Access Committee, Alzheimer's Australia & Dementia Friendly Communities, Lake Cathie Progress Association, Lake Cathie Fishing Club and House with No Steps for their valuable support and input.
