Kindee Bridge

Kindee Bridge

In 2018, Kindee Bridge suffered extensive damage to the permanent braces and hanging rods of the bridge due to a vehicle collision. We undertook repairs to the bridge to replace the permanent braces and hanging rods, with the bridge reopening on 15 November 2018. The following extracts below are updates on the project.

In 2019-2020 financial year, we are looking at designs for an alternate bridge site for Kindee Bridge along with more maintenance work to prolong the life of the existing bridge. We will update this page with more detail on what this will include when more information is available.

Project Updates

  • Kindee Bridge repairs 2020

    16 December 2019

As part of Council’s 2019/20 Operational Plan and ongoing commitment to the region’s road network, Council will be carrying out structural repairs in 2020, to the Kindee Bridge located on Kindee Road, approx. 3km west of Long Flat.

Works on the existing timber and steel suspension bridge will include replacement and/or refurbishment of selected members to prolong the life of the bridge.

Works are scheduled to commence in early February 2020 and are expected to take approx. 5 months to complete. Regular road closures will be required to carry out the works, with these closures planned to be implemented on weekdays from 9am to 3pm. Pipeclay Road will be used as the detour route while the road closures are implemented.

Council will provide further detail in January 2020 confirming the road closure dates and frequency of closures.

Council would like to thank residents and road users for their understanding and patience while these important works take place.

  • Kindee bridge update

    27 March 2019

Repair works for the historic Kindee Bridge will take place this week on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 March. Full closure of the bridge between 9am and 3pm (both days) is required to do the work, after which we anticipate the bridge will return to its 10 tonne load limit. Alternate access to Kindee is via Pipeclay road during the closure. Thanks for your understanding and patience as these important works take place. If you have any questions, please contact Council on 6581 8111 or email council@pmhc.nsw.gov.au.

  • Kindee Bridge update

    28 September 2018

Kindee Bridge repairs with temporary bracing has been completed and the bridge is now open to vehicles and pedestrians. Thanks for your patience and understanding, and top job from our Bridge Engineer and crews for undertaking this tricky repair so quickly and skillfully. Whilst the bridge is now open, future closures between 9am and 3pm will be required to allow the permanent braces to be installed, and we will advise when this is to occur.

  • Kindee Bridge update

    Kindee Bridge

    26 September 2018

Works commenced at the bridge site on Monday 24 September, with preparation of the access track and installation of a working platform for access equipment and boom lift.

Temporary brackets have been installed to allow for the installation of temporary bracing and removal of damaged bridge members. The final braces are being painted. It is anticipated to open the bridge in the coming days with the temporary bracing in place.

There will still be several one day (9am to 3pm) closures in the coming weeks to allow the permanent braces to be installed. There is no timeframe on when the permanent braces will be available for installation yet. Security fencing has been installed to provide pedestrian access on bridge deck around the work zone while the works are undertaken.

As these works progress we will be able to provide a more definitive date for reopening of the bridge.

  • Kindee Bridge update

    Kindee bridge.jpg

    13 September 2018

Kindee Bridge is closed until further notice. Our Council engineers are on site assessing the damage and we'll provide updates as more information comes to hand. Motorists are asked to use the alternative route via Pipeclay Road.

Our engineers have inspected Kindee Bridge this morning following yesterday’s single vehicle accident. Significant damage has occurred to one of the bridge bracing members and two hanger rods which require replacement. Due to the age and complex nature of the bridge further investigation is required, and to ensure the safety of motorists the bridge will remain closed to traffic until these investigations and repairs have been completed. A time frame on when the bridge will re-open to traffic is currently unknown, and updates will be provided as information becomes available.

The bridge remains open to pedestrians, however road closed signs and barriers have been installed on either side of the bridge. Please continue to exercise caution in the area.
