Hyndmans Creek Bridge

Hyndmans Creek Bridge Completed September 2017
Hyndmans Creek Bridge

Hyndmans Creek Bridge on Comboyne Road is a newly constructed concrete bridge replacing the existing timber bridge which had reached the end of its service life. Replacement of this bridge ensures a safer journey along Comboyne Road for local residents, business operators and visitors.

The new bridge, built using a combination of prefabricated and cast in-situ concrete elements reopened to public access on July 12 2017 after a 10 day closure while the old timber bridge was demolished and the new concrete bridge completed. The bridge foundations and abutments were constructed underneath the existing bridge while maintaining traffic flow along Comboyne Road helping to minimise the road closure time frame.

Preliminary works including clearing and construction of access tracks and working platforms commenced on site in late 2016. Bridge foundation works commenced in January 2017 followed by construction of two large reinforced concrete abutments. These works were carried out underneath the existing timber bridge while maintaining access along Comboyne Road.

The overall aim of the works was to:

  • provide a more reliable and safer regional route along Comboyne Road; and
  • provide a quality bridge for current and future users.

The $1.6M project delivery of Hyndmans Creek Bridge was jointly funded by Council and Roads and Maritime Services, who are contributing $820,000 for a number of bridge replacements along Comboyne Road through their Repair and Improvement of Regional Roads program.

The Bridge Replacement Program is part of the significant upcoming works program to be rolled out across the Local Government Area over the next three financial years.
