Port Macquarie Pedestrian Refuge Construction

The following locations in Port Macquarie were identified in the 2019-2020 Operational Plan for new pedestrian refuges and footpath connections.

The Hayward St and Gordon Street intersection projects were funded by a combination of Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) grants and Council to a total of $250,000.

Project Updates

  • Pedestrian Refuge Gordon and Hollingworth Street

    Gordon and Hollingworth Street intersection

    13 March 2020

    Works are continuing on the Gordon / Hollingworth pedestrian refuges and will be constructed in three stages to be undertaken over 10 weeks.

    Stage 1:
    • Realignment of kerb northern side of Gordon St and construction of pedestrian refuge island across Hollingworth St north.
    • Traffic impacts on Gordon Street - Left hand lane will be closed for eastbound traffic approximately 100 meters each side of Hollingworth Street with no impact on westbound traffic. Closure will be in place for duration of Stage 1 works. Access to business will be maintained (though exit from Shell service station onto Gordon St will be closed).
    • Traffic impacts on Hollingworth Street - Northbound traffic will be reduced to 1 lane on entry and exit to roundabout. Southbound traffic will see traffic reduced to 1 lane on entry to roundabout, but no impact on exit. Closure will be in place for duration of Stage 1 works.

    Stage 2:

    • Widening of central median of Gordon Street and installation of new pedestrian refuges, both east and west of roundabout
    • Traffic impacts on Gordon Street - East and westbound traffic will see both see the right hand lane closed for approximately 150 meters each side of the roundabout. Closure will be in place for duration of Stage 2 works.
    • Traffic impacts on Hollingworth Street - North and south bound traffic will be reduced to 1 lane on entry to roundabout, but no impact on exit. Closure will be in place for duration of Stage 2 works.

    Stage 3:

    • Installation of pedestrian refuge on south side of Gordon Street.
    • Traffic impacts on Gordon Street - Westbound traffic will see the left hand lane closed for approximately 50 meters each side of Hollingworth Street. No impact on eastbound traffic. Closure will be in place for duration of Stage 3 works. Access to businesses will be maintained.
    • Traffic impacts on Hollingworth Street - Northbound traffic will be reduced to 1 lane on entry to roundabout. Southbound traffic will be reduced to 1 lane on exit of roundabout. Closure will be in place for duration of Stage 3 works.
