Gordon Street

With the placement of final asphalt over three consecutive nightshifts and completion of linemarking / signposting, works are now complete on the  $1.65M upgrade of Gordon Street between Lake Road and Horton Street. This 250m section of road is located on the CBD fringe and is a busy arterial route carrying more than 21,000 vehicles per day.  These works contribute to increased safety for vehicles and pedestrians, and improved pedestrian access. New asphalt pavement will also ensure improved ride quality.

Works included widening of the existing road pavement, relocation of utility services, installation of new stormwater abatement, placement of new kerb and guttering, excavation and placement of asphalt pavement, construction of a central concrete median with associated footpaths and landscaping.

The program of works included a combination of night and day shifts to reduce impact to the public while at the same time offering maximum site access for Council’s contractors to efficiently complete their tasks. Further works have also been completed on the Hay Street leg of this project which involves stormwater upgrades and rehabilitation of the Hay Street pavement between Gordon and Hayward Streets.

The project was funded by Council, having been identified as a priority road rehabilitation project in the 2016/17 Operational Plan. It formed part of the road rehabilitation and resealing program delivered during the 2016/2017 financial year, with Council investing more than $40 million in road and transport infrastructure, maintenance and upgrades during this time.
