The upgrade of Lake Road between Gordon Street and Ocean Drive, including the Gordon Street roundabout, was completed in July 2020. These works were part of our $36 million investment in roads and transport across the region during the 2019/20 financial year.
This section of road has over 23,000 vehicles per day and is a key transport link between commercial, residential and industrial areas including activities associated with the Private Hospital and other medical businesses.
A new pavement has provided an improved travel surface for the community and all road users and will require less ongoing maintenance. The following improvements have been made:-
- Deep Lift Asphalt (AC) on Gordon Street Roundabout
- AC heavy patches on isolated sections of Lake Road where existing pavement had failed
- 40mm AC overlay of Lake Road from Gordon Street to John Fraser Place (1,800m total)
- Reinstatement of linemarking and raising of Council Water and Sewer infrastructure (manhole lids and valve covers etc)
