Hastings Sustainability Showcase

Our region is growing at a rapid rate, and it is so important that we look after our beautiful natural environment and local biodiversity so that we remain such a great place to live, work, play, learn and invest.

Council is a strong advocate for sustainability across our region, and has developed a number of strategies that aim to reduce our carbon footprint and promote sustainable initiatives in our community.

For example, Council’s Long Term Energy Strategy will aim to source 100% of Council’s electricity from renewal sources by 2027, a big commitment that we are focussed on achieving for our community.

There’s also our Biodiversity Strategy which looks at the strategic growth and development of our region while at the same time conserving our important local biodiversity.

A new initiative which Council is proud to support is the inaugural Hastings Sustainability Showcase, which takes place this Friday March 1 between 12pm and 5pm and Saturday March 2 between 9am and 4pm at the Port Macquarie Racecourse.

This showcase aims to educate, inform and inspire local residents, school children and businesses on the latest ideas, products and trends in sustainability.

We’ll have lots on display across Council services where you can learn about things like where your drinking water comes from, how to recycle right and the best ways to maintain your bicycle and stay safe riding on our region’s roads.

There’ll be over 50 displays, 30 seminar presentations and lots of activities for the kids, with local community groups and businesses there to show you the latest and greatest in sustainability products.

Whether it’s local food and agriculture, health and well-being, tourism or renewable energy there’s definitely something for everyone to discover, and to get involved in.

I encourage everyone interested in learning more about how they can be more sustainable to drop in to the showcase this weekend.
