Mayor's Weekly Message: Monday 3 June 2019
Important infrastructure for our rural communities One of the great things about working on behalf of our community as your Mayor, is that I get to be involved in a wide variety of initiatives that have a direct impact on local residents.
I love having the opportunity to champion the community’s voice where I can - and I especially love it when Council delivers on projects that have enormous benefit to our community.
One such project happening right now is the rollout of the village sewerage schemes in Comboyne, Telegraph Point and Long Flat.
In a nutshell the work involves installing new sewerage systems and treatment plants throughout the three towns, which means no more on-site sewerage tanks resulting in a much cleaner, safer and healthier waste disposal method in these growing rural villages.
Important infrastructure and underground services like the maintenance of our sewerage and water networks ensures we can all enjoy the quality of life we expect, and deserve.
In partnership with the NSW Government, Council has invested $29 million to provide these sewerage upgrades to our rural communities.
While they might not be as visible as a new playground, road or sporting facility they play a critical role in the growth of our region, reduce impacts on our local environment and enable local businesses to operate more efficiently.
All three schemes are on track and scheduled to be completed by July 2020, with connection for customers to progressively occur from early 2020 onwards.
