Mayor's Weekly Message: Monday 15 July 2019
Go Behind the Scenes at Council
If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at Council then now’s your chance to get an insider’s view as part this year’s celebrations of Local Government Week.
The theme for this year is ‘Your Council’, highlighting that your Council delivers much more than just ‘roads, rates and rubbish’.
Last year we celebrated Local Government Week with tours of our facilities, and the demand was so high, we thought we’d do it all again this year.
Prior to becoming Mayor, I had a broad understanding of the responsibility of Council, but I can tell you there are things you just would not believe Council must maintain and look after on behalf of our community.
I’ve been on one of these tours myself, and it’s truly amazing just how diverse, talented and enthusiastic your Council staff are.
We have scientists, construction engineers, builders, labourers, electricians, ecologists, town planners, excavator drivers and communications experts to name just a few… who are all working to make our region a great place to live, work, play and invest.
So if you’re interested in learning more about our Council Rangers, want to see recycling in action or would like to hear from a project engineer on just how a seawall is built, then book your spot on a tour today!
The tours are FREE, but places are limited so you must get in early or you’ll miss out.
I encourage everyone to come along if you can, who knows, you might just be inspired to become an elected Councillor or even apply for a job one day!
