Heritage Week

Autumn is the perfect season to discover our region's rich history during the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s Heritage Festival this April 14 - May 20. The Festival theme this year is ‘Journeys’ as part of our 2018 Bicentenary; where have we come from, where are we now and where are we going?

Now in its 21st year, the Festival promises something for everyone with lots of events including family and kids activities, shipwreck and local art exhibitions, heritage and archaeology tours, vintage car tours, lectures, talks, costumed performers and the outdoor creative arts and culture event ‘Artwalk’.

As one of the oldest settlements in NSW, so much awaits you to discover or rediscover in our Bicentenary year, including the region's natural, Aboriginal and European histories - from our first inhabitants the Biripai people, our European convict settlement in 1821 to our modern history as a tourist mecca and sea-change city.

Council and our local heritage organisations are proud to protect, conserve and showcase our local historic places and landmarks that link the stories of the people, places and events that have shaped our community.

Here is a taste of the events that were on offer for 2018:

If your community group or organisation would like to be a part of the Festival you can register your event on our Community Events Listing, phone 02 6581 8111 or email council@pmhc.nsw.gov.au for more information.
