Council's Economic Development Team aims to encourage and support businesses, industry sectors, investors and relocators to achieve a high standard of living with strong commercial, social and environmental foundations.
The team is responsible for the implementation of the Economic Development Strategy and related projects such as;
1) Advocating and planning for local and regional growth.
2) Research, data collection and analysis.
3) Supporting and facilitating business growth and new investment.
4) Creating a business friendly culture within Council
5) Providing referrals to service providers who can help with business support/advice
6) Destination marketing to increase visitation.
7) Supporting and facilitating major events.
The Economic Development Unit consists of three teams:
The Destination Management team works with the local tourism industry and stakeholders to improve our destination and to market our place to visitors. The aim is to increase overnight visitor numbers and grow our visitor economy. Please visit our Things to see and do section for more information about our great destination.
This Major Events team manages a robust major events portfolio including Ironman and Junior State Cup. The team works closely with event managers, Council staff and the community to deliver smooth events with significant economic and social benefit. Business and Industry Development
The Business and Industry Development team works with many industry sectors to ensure effective planning for a strong and diverse economy. Concentrating on business, investment and lifestyle the team is committed to job creation, business sustainability, growth and a solutions focus within Council that allows the economy to flourish.
