Town Square - August 2017
Town Green and Town Square have both undergone a major face lift with construction completed for the many locals and visitors who will enjoy these spaces over the busy Christmas holiday season.
The project has seen the construction of a new Town Square (at the northern end of Horton St) and Stage 1 of an upgrade to the Town Green to ensure these spaces meet future community needs. This results in more vibrant and useable spaces for the many events, experiences and activities that occur and to see these spaces act as major drawcards for locals and visitors.
Feature on the new Town Square include increased pedestrian space, an accessible and open area which can be used for community events, markets and festivals, new alfresco dining areas with shading provided by large commercial umbrellas in a bright colour scheme to add interest and contrast and modular furniture providing contrasting colour.
Semi-mature ‘Green Vase’ trees have been planted, and once established will grow to 10m in height and 7m wide providing shade and maintaining clear sight lines through to the Town Green. Additional colour will be provided by ‘Moonboy’ shrubs.
Installed approximately 7m above the ground like a spider web, Catenary lighting will be a feature of the Town Square for events and festivals.
Landscaping, paving and street furniture installation has now been completed on the Town Green with new footpaths along the foreshore providing pedestrian access from Town Green to the Breakwall and the rest of the Coastal Walk beyond.
The design for the Town Square was adopted by the Town Centre Master Plan14MB pdf(PDF, 14MB) (TCMP) Committee, who funded these works through contributions levied on commercial property owners within the Port Macquarie CBD. The TCMP has also contributed funds towards the Town Green upgrade.
Community engagement for the Town Centre Master Plan (including Town Square and Town Green) occurred and was completed in 2014.
